The Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence "Mihai Drăgănescu" has been established in 1994 to be a competence centre, active disseminator of knowledge. It has a core of permanent staff (22 researchers, 3 of them Members of the Romanian Academy; 5 associated members from abroad) and a variable number of temporary (contract-based) collaborators, mainly MSc. or PhD. students.
The Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence "Mihai Drăgănescu" is member of the European Network of Excellence in Human Language Technologies.
Each year, since its foundation, it was rated highest (“Excellency institution”) within the Romanian Academy yearly evaluation procedure. In 2001 it won the competition for Centres of Excellency (in Information Science and Technology) organized by the Ministry of Education and Science. In 2002 it was rated as the best research institute of the Romanian Academy (from 60 institutes and centres). In 2008 ICIA was acreditated as a research institution, as a component unit of the Research System of National Interest in conformity with HG no. 551/2007.
The main research projects of the Institute are in the areas of natural language processing, machine learning and knowledge acquisition, computer-aided instruction and structural-phenomenological modelling. The activities of the Institute also include know-how dissemination, education in artificial intelligence, and organisation of national and international conferences, summer schools, and seminars.
The Institute has several cooperation relations with Universities, research institutions and industrial partners from more than 20 countries from Europe and USA.

The Creative Communities Unit (CCU) at Staffordshire University (UK) is keen to partner internationally.
The CCU has wide expertise in issues related to community engagement, local service provision and design and the evaluation of community and regeneration programmes and security and community resilience.
We currently have projects including -
1. social innovation - "temporary structure" and "self-organising"projects in East London (as piloted near the 2012 Olympic Park), and -
2. community resilience in fast changing urban contexts (viewing East London, South Side Chicago etc.).We wish to develop further with reference to innovation, community resilience and megacrises.
We have been involved in EU programmes and currenty have a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project concerning social housing and tenant engagement.
TED University
TED University was established by an act of the Parliament dated July 07, 2009 (legislation # 5913) . The founder is the Turkish Education Association - Higher Education Foundation (TEDYÜV) which in turn was founded by the Turkish Education Association (TED).
The academic units of the University are
- Faculty of Education,
- Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences,
- Faculty of Engineering and Architecture
and the first students will be enrolled in September 2012, for the academic year of 2012-2013. The medium of instruction at TED University is English. Students are expected to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency in English; otherwise they need to study at the English Language School for at least one year.
TED University offers liberal arts education with a common core content of one year, a major content of two years and a minor content of one year. A large selection of elective courses, innovative teaching pedagogies, a student centered approach, and a balanced focus on both the depth and extensiveness of knowledge are typical features of the education at TEDU.
TED University will be a learning, exploring institution of 4000-4500 students, bringing to Turkish higher education area a new scope through its educational profile, quality culture, international links and top quality academic staff.
